My new Laptop for Flashing!

Post by Shootsteel »

Here she is, the HOLY GRAIL of 360 modding, a laptop that will pick up and flash in JF every drive out there! I am complete now (resting after a long days work). For the record the computer is a Lenovo Y550 with an external e-sata that is actually an internal one as well...throughout my attempts at this I have found that most external e-sata's are actually internal usb to esata which is why it's so hard to find one that will work.....Thought you guys would like to know as I know a few people on here really want a laptop that will flash well this is one that will! :D

I hear these and Thinkpads do well for some of our European brothers when it comes to flashing 360s.

I have the HP HDX18. I got a great deal on it!
I use a Xpress 54 card and a PCMCIA 6421 card with a connectivity kit hooked to the USB, though.
I have an eSata but I haven't tried that port yet(will try that one today, I have a customer who has 9 Xboxes that need updating).

I have been using it for a few months like this and I have only had a hiccup on a drive that was dying(Samsung MS28).
Other than that I have flashed probably close to 70 360's with it in that time. I only use it on the road(use my desktop at home).
I have flashed every drive out there except a Hitachi v78/79.
Just haven't run into them on the road.

Thanks for sharing though, man.

I ve have tried three laptop so far and none were able to flash all the drive until I saw the one shoot steal has.

here is the model and how it was done

Lenovo ideapad Y550

It has a combo usb 2.0 / eSATA port.

It came with Vista 64 bit, and immediately was reformatted, and set up a partition, 50gb for windows xp home, and the remaining 300gb for Windows 7.

Installed .net framework, and manually installed the portio drivers.

Plugged an eSATA -> SATA cable into the BENQ, and used a molex power connector for the power supply from a USB -> SATA kit

Windows immediately recognized it, and it read disks in Windows.

Started up JungleFlasher, it gave me the warning we needed to disable the drive letter for the drive, so we did.

Read the drive like a charm, flashed with even more ease than a desktop.
