dell latitude d600

i am trying to repair a dell laptop for my friend it is a dell latitude d600 model pp05l what is happening is when i turn it on the lights light up then go off the only one that stays on is the middle one of the three locks simbols to the left of the start button it flashes a couple of times then goes off the simbol as a A on it

no idea
will it boot into the bios
then you could try a different HD
and reload the new HD to what happens

no mate it wont boot up at all and i cant seem to find where the hard drive is situated

found it mate its different to any hard drive i have so cant try another one so im stuck

If you cant get to the bios the HDD is not the issue.

Also, brands of HDD's dont matter, you can replace it with any hard drive out there. (As long as its the same interface ide/sata and similar dimensions.)

When you say it wont boot at all, do you mean into windows or do you mean it doesn't even POST? Do you hear a beep a few seconds after you turn the laptop on?
