FIX E74-TUTORIAL

Post by cainhunpi »

E74 Fix Tutorial by rey39:

1st u need a heatgun i got mine from walmart $20.00
2nd u need 2 old shirts, get some liquid flux and a syringe
ok let's begin
u can get liquid flux on ebay, or u can make your own just go to radioshack get some soldering flux and a 16oz bottle of alcohol and mix it up until it's watery and now u have liquid flux
u can use any cooking syringe but i prefer an insulin syringe it really gets under the chip without making a mess
tilt the motherboard at an angle now get the syringe and inject the flux under the hana chip until u see the flux come out the other side of the chip and clean any access flux
Image

now turn the motherboard on the other side and repeat the injection process
Image

next let the flux set for 5-10 mins then
place the motherboard in the middle of the 2 old shirts and wrap it up u can use masking tape to hold it down so no excess heat travels to the rest of the components everything is covered except the hana chip, gpu, cpu, ram chips
Image

next your are ready to heatgun it
Image

turn on the heatgun at the lowest setting and heatup the area for 1min in a circular motion and not too close.after 1min then set your heatgun at the highest setting and heat it up the area in a circular motion for 4mins after the 4mins let it cool off for 45min-1hour,don't open the window to cool it off or it will crack the solder i always wait 1 hr and don't move the board or else u will mess up the fix after it's cooled off put it back together paste, washers, screws turn it on now your 360 will boot up and it's fixed.hope this has helped out everybody that ever had E74 error this even works for no video i have done alot of boxes with this method and worked on every one of them.if you have any problems just pm me and i will help u.later..bro

Flux + Alcohol is how you make liquid flux?

Guys
ALWAYS give credit to the person that made the guide
It would also be a good idea to just ask if its ok to post here on the playground.
most of the time the people dont mind at all.

speaking as someone that has put in my share of time making guides
sorry for this.

lets not make more out of this than it is. ;)
good guides are hard to find and when we do find one
we all want to get the word out :D :D

im going to try this on the next e74 that i get in the door. :? :D

I plan on trying this on any box I get in that needs a reflow ;)

I found a more detailed recipe for the liquid flux:
msickler4 from xbox360iso wrote: Preparing the Solution

1. Pour 16 ounce alcohol into a jar. [91% or higher]
2. Take a spoonful of the Rosin Soldering Flux and put into Jar.
3. Shake jar vigorously until flux is dissolved into alcohol.
4. Keep adding flux until alcohol cant absorb any more. This is generally around 2-3 table spoonfuls.
