Well i picked up 2 new ipod touches today.
a 16gb and a 32gb for the wife.
both have the v1.1.4 firmware.
so ill be messing with them today and/or tomorrow.

no store with in 100 miles of me had a 8gb
and i got the only 16gb i could find.

Hows it coming along? pwnage 2.0 is pretty slick, although you may run into one hiccup. I did the iphone and I had to get it into DFU mode...I am uncertain if you need to get the touch into DFU mode however, there is no software solution to do this. It's a hardware timing trick. -This is only necessary for the 2.0 updated devices-

Here's the process.

This is how to achieve DFU mode. You can do it on every phone:

* Attach the phone to the pc
* Turn the phone off
* Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
* Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
* At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.

Also...I won't link the step-by-step guide that is well written because it contains hyperlinks to the baseband files (not sure if that's allowed ) but a google search will show it. It should be noted however that the firmwares it links are not hacked...pwnage creates your own custom fw from the real ones that apple supplies you

It's OK to link to anything that can be freely Downloaded from apple or isn't illegal. The 2.0 firmware, you have to pay for so no links to that. Links to pwnage, winpwn or iliberty is ok too.

I originally had a 1.1.4 ipod touch, so I used iLiberty+ to jailbreak it. It worked like a charm the very first time so if your going to stay on 1.1.4 to take advantage of installer.app, this would be the way that I would go. If you just can't stand it and want the 2.0 update like I did, then I suggest purchasing the upgrade through iTunes, that way you'll have a copy of the 2.0 firmware restore file and you can use either winpwn for windows or pwnage tool for the mac to jailbreak with. If you want to jailbreak. I used pwnage tool for the mac with mine. I tried winpwn, but I had a few problems with it creating the hacked firmware from the original. Pwnage tool had 0 problems. They claim the problems are because winpwn is a very memory hungry program when its creating the hacked firmware, but my windows machine had 4 GB of memory and my mac only has 1.25 GB so go figure. So to really answer your question, I've been through both procedures, and both are pretty painless. Wel, except for getting the ipod into DFU mode. That can be a bit tricky, but that just takes timing. The first time I jailbroke, I got it on the first try, I think that was because the program does it for you automatically. The winpwn and pwnage tool just tells you how to do it, but doesn't do it automatically.

Neither pwnage tool or winpwn comes with any firmware so they should be legal to download.

Those that don't have access to a MAC computer, there is a new version of winpwn getting ready to be released, winpwn 2.5. It should aleviate some of the problems that folks are seeing with the current version, or at least we hope so.
