Well I will start by say this is not a clone. It's my understanding that R4 was bought by someone so the company changed
hands some time back. There are REAL R4 DS/DSi mod cards to be had.
BUT
That does not mean that the R4 has not been cloned. It has, almost to the complete destruction of the legitimate company.

I will go over the difference of the orignal and the clone now.
This is the home site of the legitimate R4 card maker.

I will post a few thing that show the difference in the original and the clone.

That is all i have to say about the clone.
I'm not a big fan of any clone stuff for the modding we do.

Ok
On with the review.

The R4i came from the normal place I get my parts from.
http://www.modchip.ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (Great job again)
You can find a On-line retailer site review here

The R4i came boxed nice and was delivered fast.

The first thing i noticed was that the slot for the micro sd card had been changed. In the original DS R4 card the slot was spring loaded.
That sounds cool, but in time the spring could give trouble.
I'm glad to see that with the new R4i the micro SD slot is NOT spring loaded and is just a push/pull slot
Now the card has NO moving parts. :D

Once you get in the box you see that it has the R4i mod card and a usb micro Sd adapter. (Man does that come in handy.)

After i got the card out of the box and had a good look at it.
All things looked in order and appears to be a nice solid and well made card.
Thing worth noting.
The R4i mod chip was in a small plastic reusable protective case.
The usb/sd adapter even has a small wrist strap attached to it. (unreal  very nice little touch)
I think it says a lot when a company takes the time for the little things
That just as well could be left out.(Top marks for the extras)

Now to the meat and potatoes of the review.
I went to the R4i site and got the latest "Kernel Version: 1.54 "
After I unzipped the download and had a look in the file there was another good little extra
The Guys at R4 had also put the moonshell media player in the download. :D

After putting the sd card in the usb/sd adapter and plugging it in the PC I moved the 6 files over to the root of the SD card.
Then i moved in a Ds rom i had on hand for testing.

After installing the R4i in the DSi and powering it up it had the familiar look to it.
The pac-man face for games, the sound symbols for media and the face for boot slot 2.

When i started the game it listed them in a line order.
Once i started the game it played perfect.
IMO
I have always thought it would look better to list games as a icon img (like gui-fx on the wii)

When I started the moonshell to play a movie (must be a dpg file)
The top screen looked like it should as its loading the movie
BUT
The bottom screen put up a ERROR massage.
The error went away as soon as the movie loaded.
Ive looked into this some and it looks like it the same error that the ACEKARD 2i gives when moonshell is started on it.
It would be nice to see a future update take care of this.
any way once the movie started it played good .

Just a few thing i would bring up.
The download comes with 6 skins you can choose from
and i'm sure there is almost a endless list you can find with a little looking.

I would recommend the R4i Revolution mod card to anyone that is looking for a new toy for there DSi.
The price was the best for any of the REAL DS mod card on the market
The only down side is the fact that this card was so popular that it was cloned almost to death.
There are sites you can get the real R4i.Just do your homework and read up before you order.I have been very happy with this company http://www.modchip.ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they have never let me down (so far :? )

One big thing from my 11 year old point of view is the fact
I was able to save all her games and game saves from her old Cyclo DS mod card and copy them over to the new R4i and
after hours of testing :P with many of her games she has no problem to report.
I'm sure testing will continue :D
