My firewall got prevent me from using the internet, please h

Hi

I am a stupid person when it comes to PC stuff. I downloaded a firewall...app, that was from the university I will go to. And after that and a full virus scan, I could no longer use opera or ICQ messenger. I got rid of them and downloaded them again, turned off-turned on my mac thousands times, but nothing is working. I keep getting a message that something needs to be done with my fire wall and HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP ports.

Help any of you?

What firewall are you using, whats the name of it?

What are the minimum services required to turn on Windows Firewall? I run as few services as I can . When I try to turn on the firewall it tells me that its unable to, because one or more associated services are not running. What are these associated services? Please dont tell me that the Windows firewall is no good , and to junk it. That may be true, but it doesn't answer my question.
