Its important to note whether or not this is for GSM or CDMA phones, also which firmware this will work with. Some have been patched and can't gain root access.

Also, the first download link is dead.

Yeah, it works now, but it didn't when I posted about it. My apologies for that. But still need to watch the differences in cdma and gsm phones and firmware versions. Some cell providers are learning to cook their own roms just so they can patch them their self.

The recovery is highly recommended if you get into playing around with roms and such. This way you can do whats called a nandroid backup (this is basically doing a backup of the current rom to your SD card) before flashing the rom. That way if you don't like it, or your phone starts doing wonky things like repeated force quites, you can restore it using the backup.

You can also use it to install certain things like theme packs, add on packs, and even install other roms.

I tell you what man, this thing is almost impossible to brick if you've got a good backup. I've jacked it up so many times and just ran a recovery nand restore and boom done good as new! I've rooted and unrooted about forty times gone to and from stock about the same to. I don't think I've ever had so much fun with a phone.
