Trifecta of Galaxy S II Phones Prepares to Invade 3 Top U.S. Carriers

The Galaxy S II is coming in the next few weeks to 3 of America's top four networks. The best model appears to be on Sprint's network (left), but all sound pretty nice.

Verizon is left out of the GS II party -- for now

Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (SEO:005930) scored a sales hit with its Galaxy S smartphone, powered by Google Inc.'s (GOOG) industry-leading Android operating system. Now the phone's successor -- the Galaxy S II -- has been officially announced for three of the U.S.'s top four carriers.

The release comes just days after the official Samsung announcement of a larger-screen Galaxy S II variant and just weeks after pictures of the upcoming models leaked to PocketNow.

As rumored, the phone will launch on AT&T, Inc. (T) [press release], Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) [press release, spec sheet], and Deutsche Telekom AG's (ETR:DTE) T-Mobile USA [press release] -- America's second, third, and fourth largest networks, respectively. Noticeably absent from the party is Verizon Communications, Inc. (VZ), America's largest wireless network.

Moving on to the phones themselves, you'll notice some slight differences in the various models, which can be seen below:

The Sprint version arguably sounds the best with a true 4G modem, larger screen, and exclusive larger battery. It also is arriving the first.

All three of the phones will start off running Google's latest Android operation system, Gingerbread, and will eventually receive an update to Ice Cream Sandwich -- a new release of Android that's coming this fall.

Samsung brags that the new phone is the world's "thinnest 4G phone" (8.89 mm). Sounds about right. If you're in the market for an Android, you'll definitely want to check these out as they're some of the best the market has to offer.
