Wii question?

Post by rkd2398 »

This is in response to CoFree's new post on the main page.

Do you need a mod chip in the Wii to install the WAD Manager?

I have a Wii and would love to take a stab at it. Where would I find some more info on the Homebrew stuff. I have read Sadalius' review on the drive key and I think that's the way I want to go but I would like to read up on it more.

Im not sure about whether you need a mod chip for the wad but id say it would need moddin in some way. I have a wii which is chipped Sadalius talked me thru setting it up so that i can play games straight from a spare hard drive off my Pc the other week. If you are going to mod ur WII get a chip

this is what homebrew can do

Q. What can I do with Homebrew ?
A. There are too many things are to list them all. Some popular favorites:
- Run backup discs without a modchip
- Run games from a USB hard drive
- Run emulators for older consoles
- Play multimedia files and DVDs
- Turn your Wiimote into a vibrator.

at this point
i dont think you need a mod chip for any firmware Wii
there is a bannerbomb attack (kind of like the twlight hack)
that is said to softmod any or most wii

This is what im working on right now
There is some stuff we would need to know
the main thing is what firmware is on your wii.

dont take any firmware update from wii at all
all that will do is make it harder.

Cofree is right. You would need one of two things to get homebrew running. The first method requires that you have The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess game and whats called the twilight hack and the second just requires the bannerbomb. The twilight hack works like the old softmod xploit for the xbox1. It's a game save that when you run, causes the wii to crash in such a manner that it takes control of the machine and runs the code to where you can install the homebrew channel. I don't know if it works on system menu 4.0 or not though.

The bannerbomb is very similar, but differs in the fact that instead of running the HBC install, it runs whatever dol file is in the root of the SD card. This works on all Wii's that I know of.

There are softmods out there too so you can play your backups without a modchip . But it isn't compatible with all the games. It is an ongoing project so as time goes by, the compatibility will increase.

when using external usb do you have to use the wii drive to transfer the game? when we were talking about formatting the usb drive the other day i think you said in another post something about a format resizing issue that makes me think you need to use the wii to interface with the usb drive

found it- (WBFS) a proprietary file system?

there are many ways to get the game iso now. :?

but
after you have the iso
you would move it to the wbfs partition on your usb HD

i use this program to move the iso from the pc to the usb Hd that is hook to the pc.
wbfs manger v3.0
you need net framwork 3.5 installed on your pc to run this program.
you can find it in the wii programs thread ;)

Thanks man, I'll check it out, I will probably get to do this tonight. After 3 years, looks like I have a reason to install HBC now ;)

You can connect the USB drive to your PC and use WBFS File manager to move iso's to the drive, remove them or extract them to your PC. Windows will not do this natively so WBFS file manager is needed. You can also format a drive in WBFS, clone a drive and various other things with WBFS file manager. Of course you can still dump them to the HDD through the Wii using USB Loader as well. GUI-FX will be getting this ability a little bit later and if I remember what kaesar said correctly, it will be in the config menu hidden away from the younger less responsible ones.

Is it modded at all?? If its not I would suggest using this guide to get things rolling. I know it may seem like a lot, but it's not that hard and if you have any questions, just pot them up and we'll answer them the best we can. CoFree's going through this same guide right now on a Wii. It will get you the homebrew channel, the ability to run GUI-FX, and play about 95% of backups. If you do the Further Steps as well, you'll get a few more bonuses as well. But in order to run GUI-FX, you'll need to install CIOSV10 from the further steps at any rate. With the ios60, it will ask you what ios you want to use, select 249. The rest of it is pretty straight forward.

It's not modded, do I have to put the games on a SD Card, or can I put them on a dvd.

I am looking at that guide and I know that it says LU64+, is not compatible so and LU60 will work right.
