Successful (safe) Overclock

Post by Backslash »

Hey guys I let me tell you about my setup:

Image
AMD Athlon X2 64 4000+ @2.5GHz "Brisbane"
ELITEGROUP MCP61PM-AM Motherboard
Samsung PC2-5300 667MHz Memory
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 Chipset

Image

Ok so i was messing with my BIOS today and decided to OC a little, I will eventually go higher i just want a safe one for now. Originally, the CPU ran at 2.1GHz. I changed the Bus Frequency to 240Mz, and the Hipertransport multiplier to 4x. That gives me a 960Mz BF x HT, which 1000 was stock.

I wanna see what this CPU can do, I will update this whenever I successful reach a new benchmark. I'm shooting for 2.9GHz without having to change the HSF. ;)

I'm trying to do some overclocking on my Q6600, but it's on an OEM motherboard, so I think I've wasted a few hours on nothing :P

I've overclocked a 2.66GHz P4 to 3.4 (I think) and it ran pretty solid, but thats Intel, not AMD. I've also have OC'd a friend's Q6700 to 3.6 (I think) and thats a quad-core so you can imagine how fast that was running.

Alright I just hit 2.66GHz now, without changing the Hipertransport Multiplier. I will see if I can get a stable 2.8, but like i said its OEM, so I don't know about that 2.9GHz.

Tried updating BIOS, still no joy, just won't let me adjust FSB at all.... crappy OEM mobo's

something else I've just noticed, my clock speed seems to fluctuate between 1600mhz and 2400mhz. Is that normal??

Man the only thing that could make it do that is if when your monitoring you have more than going, i know when i ran cpu-z and everest they reported wrong. And as for the FSB + try lowering your memory frequency, usually if you do that then your FSB will be able to adjust higher.
