(I posted this here since thermal paste is kind of more computer related than xbox related.)

A friend of mine got 3 red rings, and he has no warranty, I flashed his drive in the past so I figured I may as well attempt to fix his xbox.

I just wanted to know a little about the specs of thermal paste?

Code:
Specifications:
color:white
heat exchange:>1.066W/m-k
thermal impedance: <0.056?-M2/W
temperature interval:-50-260?
38x38x30mm, or 1.5x1.5x1.2in
weight:15g, or 0.5oz

Am I looking for a high or low number for heat exchange? I assume Thermal Impedance means Thermal resistance? Again am I looking for a high or low number?

I have found these specs on another paste aswell...

Code:
      Thermal Conductivity:>1.22W/m-k
      Thermal Resistance:<0.201°C-in2/W
      Size: 119 x 20 x 10mm
      Netweight: 0.1oz

The first one is a 15g container, and the second is a 1g syringe, which one is better, the container is a much better value, but is it decent quality?

Edit: Also found this:

Code:
Thermal Conductivity(W/m*K) > 4.5
Thermal Resistance (℃-in2/W) < 0.03
Working Temperature (℃) -50 ~ 240

Thats like 5 dollars CAD for 2g so its pretty much the same price as everything ive found so far, but much different stats...

Found 12g of artic silver:
Code:
Contains 99.9% pure silver
High-Density(contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight)
Controlled Tripple-Phase Viscosity
Not Electrically Conductive and Absolute Stability (will not separate, run, migrate, or bleed)
Thermal Conductance: >300,000W/m2 °C (0.001 inch layer)
Thermal Resistance: <0.0045°C-in2/Watt (0.001 inch layer)
Average Particle Size: <0.49 microns <0.000020 inch
Extended Temperature Limits: Peak: -50°C to >180°C Long-Term: -50°C to 130°C
Performance: 3 to 12 degrees centigrade lower CPU

I have arctic silver in my comp, I remember buying the paste for the comp tech at my work to when he was replacing my mobo.

You put a thin layer between the chip and the heat sink. The paste is a much better conductor than just plain air, so the heat is transferred more effectively.

Turns out I have some arctic silver left... im pretty sure its pretty good, apperently it was 20.00 for a 3.5 g tube (although I found the same tube online for like 7 dollars...)

As far as I know now, the only downside is that is is 99.9% pure silver, so it conducts and you cannot get any on the pins or anything.
