Swapping a Liteon for a Benq

Post by ODGE »

Hello all,
Could somebody please tell me if it is possible to swap a 74850 liteon with a Benq VAD6038?
If it is possible do you know where i will find a tut explaining the complete process.I have tried to flash my m8's Liteon today and i think i have bricked it?
The Green light on the X-Box is constanly flashing and after a short while it ended up with a Red light flashing in the bottom right hand corner.I turned it off straight away and have just switched it back on and it has gone back to the flashing Green light thank god.
I think the bricking was caused by my PC freezing as i was erasing the Liteon for flashing.
I have a spare Benq drive and have just recently flashed my own Benq so i know there should be no problems this time hopefully.I have been looking all day and looked at the Jungleflasher tut but i get confused due to it not mentioning the drives that i want to flash lol.
I feel tired and my head is banging now with all of this,so i would be eternally greatfull to somebody if they could help me out.
If you require anymore information then please do not hesitate to get in touch.I will wait up because i want to get this done and back to my m8 and then never touch another X-Box again because this has drove me mental,it was just a favour for a m8 at first but i am really pissed off now.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
All the best to you.
Take care.

Sorry forgot to mention that i have the key for the liteon and i have aksed my m8 and told he there may be issues with going on Live!.
He says he is not bothered about Live! and will be using it offline.
Thank you.

you have not bricked the liteon
you just need to get a firmware flashed in it.
have a read Here
for a work around if you are using a via card or chipset
i found it better to just get a pc that has on board sata and dont have a via chipset

as far as spoofing in a benq drive
yes it can be done
but
the games that have the ap25 check can be a problem
some wont play others will

if on some crazy odd chance you have bricked(no way) the liteon
you would be best to just order from ebay a new liteon (same model) and put that in.

Hello CoFree,
Many thanks for replying m8.
I always use the onboard Sata due to having problems in the past with the VIA card.
The thing that i am really worried about now CoFree is that when i turned the X-Box on a while ago it got a flashing Red Light in the bottom Right hand corner and i am scared i am going to do more damage than i have already done.
I had one not so long ago and it ending up getting the E76 error and that is what i am scared of happening to this X-Box.
I have followed most of your posts and also some of your videos with regards to flashing X-Boxes m8,so i know that you know what you are on about and i trust you.
If you could put my mind to rest about the Red Light i will try and fix the Liteon drive.
I just want to make sure that i am confident and know what may or may not happen before i attampt to turn it on and try something again.
Thank you once agin for taking the time to help and reply to my post.
Take care m8.

well that red light was a error
i dont guess you checked to see what error it was :?: :D

im sure it was a firmware error
flash the liteon back to stock with the key in it.
then test it out
that should put your mind at rest.

then start over
with getting a hacked firmware flashed in

No m8 i have no idea what the error was due to the X-box being connected to my PC at the time.
I will try and turn it on and leave it for a bit to see if the Red Light comes back,if it doesn't then i will try to flash it back to stock.
Last time i tried when the Green light was flashing it took ages for Jungleflasher to load and i am sure the Red light would have come back if i had waited for JF to load.
What is the best method of power cycling the drive when erasing m8,because i have not got a conectivity kit.
Just want to get it done one way or another and give it back to my m8 and i don't want to ever see the inside of an X-Box again if i am perfectly honest.
Thanks for getting back to me again CoFree.
Take care m8.

OMG man that is half the trouble
its damn hard to power the dvd drive with the console and flash a lite-on
getting the tray half closed is damn hard
you have to be able to unplug the power push the tray in and plug it back in
without the tray going in.

also
you only have so long to do the whole job before the console will red light on you
also make sure you have a video cable plugged in the console
it dont have to plugged into a tv but it does need to be in the console.

update
no you have not locked it up.
its just damn hard to do what you are wanting to do
i know it dont help you right now
but man
This is what you need

Just 1 red light in the bottom right hand corner louism92.
I know its really hard to do without the connectivity kit CoFree m8,i have watched videos and read tus with regards to flashing the Liteon and they made it look so easy that is why i thought i would give it a go as a favour to my m8.
I don't want to be doing them all the time m8,and that is the main reason i thought the expense was too much, and also being out of work at this time does not help either lol.
Wished i had never bothered with this now and i have to tell him whats happened, that is the part i am not going to like.
Have i any options at all open to me now with regards to at least getting it to boot and not Red Light?
Thank you guys appreciate the help.

Hello again,
I am posting on another forum as well as here because i did not think i would get any response so quickly.Thank you very much for that.
Somebody else has told me to take the drive out and power the X-Box up again.I ahve just done that and its been going for about 5 to 10mins with no red light.
He says it will be the drive and a E64 error.
Is that good or bad lol?

no big deal
other than the problem you are having

E65: DVD Drive Error.... DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc. This can also be caused by the tray not being fully closed on boot.

Here is a list of the error codes.

Hello again CoFree,
I am speaking to you more than i do to the wife lol.
I live in the UK,Warrington to be exact.
I have not dumped the drive myself, but my m8 who's X-Box it is e-mailed me the drive key last night and as far as i know it is good.
Is there any way to check it or am i knackered now the drive is messing about?
