cross flashing ?
Not quite sure what this means. Is this necessary on any drives? I have purchased a IHAS424-98 will i need to cross flash?

Cross flashing applies to flashing a drive that liteon made but was sold under another name, or upgrading the firmware on current drive to a higher model. Your 424 ihas is able to be flashed to a 624 model for example.
This is not necessary in your case, as the 424 ihas will burn backups just fine... If you wanted to though, you could flash to the 624 stock firmware first, then update to lt max and unlock an extra feature or two from your dvd burner.
