Sata cards that are proven to work!
Onboard sata plugs are very unreliable for flashing drives. That being said, before you even begin you need to get a sata card that's proven to work. I am posting the type of card that I use. I would like to compile a list of cards from our members that have been proven through your experience to work with flashing the drives.
If by some chance, you do get an onboard sata to work, feel free to post it. Add as much detail as possible ie. mother board, processor, etc.
my card is VIA VT6421A Serial ATA RAID PCI Controller Card

please help the other members by posting below and telling us which one you use.

Hi. I live in Norway so I can not get the chipset everyone recomends. Can this work: Delock Firewire IEEE1394 (3+1) port NEC/VIA.
http://direkteshop.no/index.php?page=sh ... 5&vmcchk=1
I have a TS MS25. I have read that all Via chipsets work, just need a confirmation.
thank you

Re: Sata cards that are proven to work!
no that will not work
it most have a sata plug
all the ports on that card are firewire.
it needs to be a via6421 a or L chipset
this is the card i would tell you to get
http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm
this was not the right place to post about this.
this tread is for cards that members KNOW will work.
no problem

Re: Sata cards that are proven to work!
I guess i should post here since my setup works. I've now done 2 Benq's successfully with no problem.
SETUP
AMD 64x2 4800+ @2.5ghz 65nm
Asus M2N-E SLI nForce500
G.Skill 8gb DDR2 800 Dual Channel
XFX GeForce 7600GT 256 DDR3
RoseWill 550w Turbo Series PSU
Seagate 320gb Sata 2 3.0gbs
WD MyBook 320gb USB2.0
Pioneer 115DBK fw 1.06
Samsung SH-D162C Kreon fw 0.80
Windows Vista Ultimate 64
------------------------------------------------------------------------
You could read what i did below, but i'll just summarize real quick. For iPrep, i switched to IDE Based Controllers. In the drop down you will see 3 types of "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controllers", i chose the second one & MTKFlash & DosFlash turned green. I also applied the MTFKFlash patch. I used a floppy since i didn't have USBflash on hand. For read/erase/flash, basically, i disconnected all drives & only left the Benq & my floppy connected. Now, there are 4 sata connections on this motherboard...Connect the Benq to the top right connection, closest to the front of your pc(Sata3). I then chose my floppy to boot first in my BIOS & powered the console on as soon as i got to the DOS screen. Just follow the normal reading instructions(dBen 1234567 12345) & when it comes to pressing Y to resend command, power off the system right after hitting enter. The status will stay at 0xD1. Now power the system back on & it will begin to dump the fw. After it finished dumping, firmtool created the key successfully & asked me to power down the system. I didn't....Leave it running the whole time while going through the erasing & flashing routines, even when they ask you to power down. I only powered down once the flashing was 100% complete. Oh yea, if you're using a floppy, & it seems like the reading is going to hang...Its not! Give it a minute or two and it will start. Same with the flashing. I made that mistake twice til' i finally let it go.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, i hope this helps some people with an nForce motherboard. Happy New Years to all

Got this a few weeks ago, works flawlessly, flashed my BenQ with it in 5 minutes.
http://www.ppa-usa.com/products/sata/1356.htm
I bought it at Frys Electronics, lucky for me, this was the only one that they had, the box has a picture of the card, but it was labled 6421L, i opened it before i bought it and it was a 6421a, so good for me.

Re: Sata cards that are proven to work!
Hmmmm...cheapest one I've seen so far. Could it be as reliable as the VIA VT6421A which reportedly works on MS25, MS28, Hitachi and BenQ?sccrbrandon4788 wrote:I've been using this one for a while: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6816132012
