Well it lasted for a couple of weeks anyways. The RROD is back. I wonder if I could remove a layer of the washers and tighten it down anymore. Any thoughts on this Sadalius? I have it tightened down tight to the existing washers and it's still doing it.

My thoughts on this would be heat. Take the heat sinks back off, foil (I use two layers of foil) off everything except for the CPU/CPU/memory chips and put the heat gun to them. Use a heat gun that has either variable heat settings or at least a low/high setting and start with it on a low temperature. Have the gun about 8-10 inches from the board and go in circles all around the board evenly. This is to gradually warm the board. After about 2 minutes of doing this, crank the heat up to high. Keep going in circles and never stay in one spot for very long. In 30 second intervals, drop a couple inches in height above the board and come down to around 3-4 inches above the board. Continue this for another 2 minutes, but depending on your heat gun, may need a little more or a little less. Pay attention to any exposed solder that you can see around the memory chips, CPU and GPU. When that solder starts to get molten, your almost there. Start focusing on the chips when you see the solder start to get molten, but keep doing small circles. An additional 30 seconds on each chip should do the trick. After that, kick the gun back to low and start raising the gun back up and take your focus off the chips and more on the entire board again. You want a gradual cool down so as not to let the chips separate again. An additional 2 minutes on low while bringing the gun out to the original height should be enough to do it. Then just cut the gun off and let the thing totally cool on its own. Put is back together and try it out.

Oh and don't forget, there are memory chips on the underneath of the board. If your sure that the memory chips aren't the problem, then you shouldn't have to worry about them. There is a technique I use for particularly stubborn boards, it just includes underneath the board as well as on top. If you don't have a good place to put the board so you can get to the top and the bottom of the board, this technique can be pain to do though.

No problem man. I just hope that it works for you. You might want to check the secondary error code and make sure that its not something different before you get into trying to fix the thing.

You should really start your own thread on this subject. Having two peoples threads going at once can get confusing. Have you tried any heat yet?

Well, I put the heat to it today. So far so good. It's been on for about 20 minutes. We'll see I guess. If it goes again, I'm getting a new one. My Hitachi is still running fine, but I can't get the avi update for it since it's banned. I have it linked to my computer, from my bedroom, so I can play avi movies directly from the computer through the xbox. So the hitachi is worthless
for this.
