I would never have imagined

Post by sadalius »

This isn't a question, just a little venting after seeing what I'm in for.......

I have a Wii that has a Wiidmod mod chip in it. The team that makes this chip hasn't updated their code to allow it to play a particular new game that has some new protection so I am looking into replacing that chip with a cyclowiz. The chip thats in there currently was installed by someone else who's no longer in the modding business. I thought I would just take a gander at the insides and see if I thought I could easily swap the chip out, after all, it shares 5 out of 8 points. Once I actually got it opened up to where I could see the chip and everything, I thought to myself, there is no way I can do this. The Wiid chip was installed using a wire install, and those wires were about as thick as thread. I think I can unsolder those wires and re-solder to the cyclowiz with no problem. But the three extra wires that I would have to put in place is another question. Those are some mighty small points. Makes D0 on the old Xbox look like a crater or something. I don't even think I have wire that thin to do it with. I think I'm going to try it myself cause I really don't want to ship it off and it be gone for a real long time and what not. I'll post back as soon as I get my cyclowiz in and "attempt" installing it.

What did you end up using in your Wii's Cofree? I know you had some that had Wiid's in them to, or did you?

Yeah, really. I've read that the Wiid can be re-programmed into a YAOSM with little effort, but the YAOSM doesn't update by DVD, you have to build a PIC programmer and re-program it everytime you want to update. You could also re-program the Wiid to a Wiifree which does update by DVD, but Wiifree just announced their retirement.

Maybe you could get a few bucks back out of them by selling them to someone who wants to tinker with it? Who knows. I would still like to find someone with a working Wiikey or even a Wiikey clone spare that they would consider parting with, but thats not a likely chance.

Well, as far as being useful in a Wii, as long as your not going to play Super Mario Galaxy, and a couple of other titles, the Wiid plays everything else. You could get "some" use out of it.

Or you could go all mad scientist on us and do some experiments or something?
