How to clear the xbox 360's cache

Post by Healy87 »

Clearing the xbox 360 cache.

Here's how: "Go to the system blade and then memory. Press Y on either the HDD or a Memory Unit and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a blade will pop up saying: This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue? Pick yes or no."

Microsoft say this is a part of the Xbox 360 technical support process and is only supported in those instances. While the cache clearing operation will not harm or render your console inoperable, it should only be used when told by the Xbox customer support staff.

some people that cant get on xbox live thinking they were banned got back on after clearing the cache.

another one
in the game oblivion people said it would help with the load times if you would clear the cache after about 50-75 hours of game play.

ive never done it myself. ;)

yep.. clearing cache can resolve problems with maps that don't load on certain games etc.
Halo3 has this problem.. so does battlefield bad co. & a host of other games..

It also removes game updates - which is useful in many ways...
1 example of this would be if you wanted to host a lan party on vegas & play with the old gun stats before they were nerfed via an update patch ;) obviously as soon as you launch it to go back on live you have to take the update again.

I found this particularly useful when my xbox's where stolen & I wanted to restore my forza2 save to my new xbox.
Since the new update effectivly locked out the option for transferring saves due to people cheating!
I cleared the cache which removed the update & I was then able to migrate my original (pre-update) backed up save :D
