Problem flashing hitachi 79fl

Post by N|M »

ok so, i looked about on how to do this and decided in the end to go with (team-xecuters) guide, got there ck3 tool and the via sata card they used (VT6421a)

so as it stood i had the following

1 - ck3
1 - vt6421a sata card
1 - 79fl drive
1 - team-xecuter tut + tools it lists to use
and all cables need to connect + firmware

installed the sata card which went well the drivers loaded, then turned pc back off and connected up the ck3 and drive just like it stated in the tut, went about checking my I/0 port and this is where things started to go wrong, the sata card came up with as not supported yikes

so i thought something is wrong so i rechecked the tut to see if i did anything wrong and all checked ok.

So after checking everything again i went to my device manager and the sata card had a ? next to it and a code 10 error ???

now ive tried un-installing it then installing it to another pci solt, no luck there so thought maybe my pc is dodgey so i put it in another pc again same problems sad

does anyone know where am going wrong or any advice on how to get this working as am starting to get annoyed with it

Thanks

thanks for the reply MsK, but i did install the drivers for the card once windows spotted the new hardware, as for the ck3 ive rechecked the website and there is no drivers for it unless am using the usb part of the ck3 (which am not in this case)

the card installs fine and seams to have no problems until i connect the ck3 upto it :(

Have you tried running a HDD off of your sata?

It seems odd that it doesn't produce the error until you plug anything in to it. I would try a hard drive, just to check that the card is working correctly.

Just out of interest, what OS are you using??

i've seen something similar to this, that was when someone installed the RAID drivers instead of SATA drivers that came with the card, it might be wor th reinstalling the card drivers...

And if at first you don't succeed..? Order the damn card! :Phttp://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm

I dont have any sata HDD's so i cant test that only thing i have sata is a DVD drive - which is in the other pc as the other pc am working with does not have sata.

I have had another look on the cd that came with the card and cant see anything that is just sata.

Dont know if this is worth meantioning but the hit 79fl is showing up in windows tho ???? which i didnt think it would by looking at the tut's until the drive is in mode b :S but you cant eject it from windows tho.

also while digging deeper to find out the problem i stumbled on "viamraid.sys" is the problem that is showing up on the error logs - and that it wont start when the system boots up, dont know if am just clutching at straws here but i really want to get this thing to work.

Thanks so far for all the replys

you have to have the drive in modeB before it will dump/flash.
the drive may mount in windows but yea it wont work right.

me thinks this is going to be a long night

ok some good news, ive now been able to sort out the issue of the card playing up, i rebooted but kept the ck3 turned off until windows loaded up, and checked the sata card and it was working, i turned the ck3 on and my system didn't freeze and was able to get data off the card to find out which I/O port the drive was on and its now in mode b.

now the bad news, the drive does not want to see the 79unlock cd so am stuck again, going to try and download another copy and see if i can get that to work, in the mean time any help on this would be great, also ive noticed my drives dont autoplay cd's, and for the life of me cant remember where the settings are to turn it back on lol

some new updates, ive been playing around with different settings, and i uninstalled the I/O driver that you had to install for windows to see the drive and reinstalled it again, then i tried getting into mode b went fine, then went to do the 79unlock ..... done woot

so i think my problem was the I/O driver i used the one that came from winford i think it was, its the one that xecuter says to use.

now i have another question, drive speeds ???? what is normally the best to pick from 2/5/8/12X

8x is already selected, i know the drive speed also reflects drive noise, but i also heard something about keeping the drive speed the same as it was new ???

glad your staying at it man.
There are not many v79 out there.
hell ive not even messed with one.

I always go with 12x speed, but 8x is fine also.
You need to keep in mind that the slower the speed the longer it will take to load game info.(I hate load time)

The console came with 12x as a max speed, but if the console is having a hard time reading a disc it will drop down to 8x to try and get a read.If it cant then it will drop again to 5x speed.
so its up to you as to what speed you want to use. ;)
