Hi all
Hopefully someone will know what I could try next ...or recognize what I am doing wrong.
I have 2 quad cores running vista, so I picked up an old P4 running XP for flashing. I picked up the recommended Sata card from tekgems. I read through textbook's tut and lots of posts here. I have flashed a few Toshiba and a few Benq without probs. Quite easy.
My problem is with the Hitachi.
So far I have no prob getting the drives in mode B with Slax. The prob is getting windows to recognize as a Hit gdr-3120. I have tried ejecting a few times at the windows loading bar,The best so far is recognizing it as a cd-r. I have tried "scan for hardware changes' , and 'populate" , still just a cd-r. I can pop in a xbox disk in nit and it identifies it as an xbox 360 disk, and can eject from the drop down menu.
I don't think this is detected properly and therefore won't risk flashing yet. Am I wrong?
I finally broke downand tried one of my new computers. The onboard controller is an ICH8R/ICH9R. I ended up with the drive being identified as a "HM2594V CCB960x SCSi CDrom DEVICE"
Any ideas? Help from one of the guru's would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: tried everything...windows won't detect Hit 47DJ
the whole point of mode B is simply for windows to detect it
I can't remember how the drive shows up in device manager but if it is showing up in "my computer" & is playing dvd's its ready for the dumping stage...
attempt a dump 1st only as this will not write to the drive, only read it
if you can get a succesful dump & the key is good (needs to be a random string // not 000's of FFF's etc.)
Then u are are set for flashing
like I said.. do the dump 1st & report back - we can advise from there

Re: tried everything...windows won't detect Hit 47DJ
Wow that was fast
For some reason it thought I read that it would identify as a gdr3120. So if I understand correctly, it doesn't have to be recognized as a gdr3120l, just showing up as another cd-r is good enough.
Well then....!
Once I am done saying thanks, I will try not to trip on anything during my mad dash back to my test bench....drooling all the way.
I will try a fw dump and report back if it is good.
Thanks MsK

Hi again,
Voila! I guess I was just being too cautious. Lesson learned, thanks MsK.
Well I used fwtoolbox to dump and looks like a good key. So now that I have a good B/U of the fw should I flash using textbooks method with flashix.bat or... there is a way to flash from fwtoolbox isn't there?
Thanks again

if you have a good key.
then i would just flash using the flash.bat in the firmware.
like this.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=322" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: tried everything...windows won't detect Hit 47DJ
Thanks CoFree,
Ok, here is the latest.
Last night after dumping the firmware with 360fwtoolbox, I decided to spoof a spare benq drive to a hit using this fw and then apply the hack to the spoofed fw. This I thought was a "safer" way to verify the fw and key. Success! The benq woks like a charm.
So I checked the forum threads one last time and watched the same video you linked to CoFree. Same method in textbooks tut. I tried that method with one small difference, I was prompted to enter a fw speed as well. Unfortunately the flash didn't even begin. It just error's out.
The actuall error is
" the system could not execute the specified program. the hit drive is not flashing. 1 of 4 things could be wrong
1 drive not detected in windows
2 shut down background programs
3 windows incompatable try safe mode
4 drive is not a working version
are you sure drive G is the hitachi drive? "
To answer a few questions ahead of time,
The drive is detected as drive G a cd-r in both windows an fwtoolbox. If i hit eject on the drive a third time to make the tray stay in I can eject the tray from drive G's drop down menu in windows.
I have all background programs shut down including antivirus.
The drive is a working drive.
Should I try safe mode or is there a way to flash from 360 fwtoolbox 4.8? It seems to pick up and identify the drive perfectly, and i know it got a good fw dump.
Let me know what you think.
Many thanks again guys.
ps: I tried safe mode and got the same error.
I also decided to try it on one of my other computers running vista. Ran flashix.bat as admin, but just got a long list of access denied. Not sure what to make of all this but starting to think its some sort of prob with the flashix.bat program.
I'm going to research flashing with 360 fwtoolbox.
Any advice?

Re: tried everything...windows won't detect Hit 47DJ
well the first thing is where do you have that flash.bat file
i have had trouble if it to deep in the c drive
i do all mine from the desktop.
you could even try from the root of "C"

Hi all,
Well It finally worked.
Thanks CoFree for the tip about keeping the directory as short as possible. To be honest when I read your post I felt pretty stupid because you mention it right on the video.
My son just thinks I fell asleep half way through the movie again. I guess it just didn't sink in,.....but it's in there now.
This was my first Hitachi and it was definitely a learning experience. I can't wait to try the 78 and 79. Maybe by then I ll be able to follow simple instructions.
Thanks again CoFree and MsK and everyone else for the help. I don't know where you find the time. Keep up the good work.
