Hard Drive Problem

Post by CaptainSpaulding »

Ok i did something really dumb and i need some advice. My xbox fell on floor and now when i turn it on it stays on the screen with the xbox logo on it and then it gives me E68 i read up on the error codes and what they mean and that one is due 2 a hard drive problem. I power the console down and take the HD off and it works perfectly. Did i screw up my HD? should i buy a new one or try and open it and see if theres anything loose? one more thing what kind of hard drive will work if i want to upgrade from the 20 to something higher? Thanks 2 all 4 any help

Have you rang microsoft yet and told them that you are receiving an E68 error.(don't mention that you've dropped it) If not they get you to register your console serial number and suggest downloading the latest update to your pc and burning it off onto a disc (don't know why they always suggest this though) Tell them you already have the latest update installed. They also ask you to start your 360 up with the hard drive unattached, tell them it boots straight up but as soon as you put the 360 hard drive on you get the black screen with the error code. Hopefully its still in warranty and they'll send you a replacement. I've had a few dealings with them and they've always been polite and courteous. Worth a try and fingers crossed.

Personally, if I absolutely knew the HDD was broken and NOT one of the connector's on the enclosure. I would order a WD Scorpio off of Newegg for $55 and flash it. You would of course need an ss.bin from a legit M$ HDD.

I think Sedalius was talking about doing this, you should ask him.

The scorpio drives work, but you do have to have a hddss.bin from a legit drive for it to work. It has to be from an official 20GB or 120GB HDD.
