Swap dvd-drives

Post by svenantenn »

Hi I´m trying to Swap a HITACHI 79FL to a BENQ VAD6038 62430CR, have dumped the both firmwares and tried several times. The 360 boots but doesent read any dvd:s, not even originals.

Everything looks right except if clicking "More Info" in toolbox, the line Spoofed as...
Spoofed as: Hitachi-GDR3120L-0079 -[□Láæ □C,□□□□o□LÆáop£áoq£áorä□] or someting like that.
I´ve tried below suggestion but still no luck -

1./ get your benq firmware and make an ixtreme version 8x .
2./ extract the drive key from your hitachi 79 firmware using firmware toolbox 4.5.
3./ load up the new benq ixtreme firmware in toolbox 4.5 and paste the hitachi drive key in there and save it.
3/ now use toolbox 4.5 to spoof your newly made benq ixtreme firmware as a hitachi 79.
4/ flash the benq drive with the modified firmware you have just created.

Try using firmware toolbox 4.6. If that doesn't work, I would just use firmware toolbox 4.6 to flash your 79 since you have it to where you can read the firmware anyway.

I´ve tried 46 already with the same results, my 79 sounds like a hairdryer and really want to get rid of it.
Could it be a bad drive?
What do you say about the weird "text" under spoof-info?

I just tried spoofing a couple of stock Benq firmwares that I have, none of them display that strange text that yours seems to have. Check yous PM for a possible solution.

Surely if you've spent the money to buy a passkey, you would just flash the 79???

no problem. I just replied. I compared your benq to another I had and the only difference was the key location. But that shouldn't matter as they sometimes use different key locations. I didn't get any strange text under the spoofing section so it should work for you. It is still original though so you'll have to create a hacked firmware from that.

svenantenn, I did some checking with various different firmwares. I found that if you take samsung or benq firmware and spoof it to any hitachi version and click that "More Info" button, that strange text is there. I don't know it's purpose, but I just happen to have a 360 with a hitachi in it so, I took my samsung and took the key from the hitachi and put it in my samsung firmware, then spoofed it to a hitachi 78 and then created my hacked firmware. Double checked that it was still spoofed and had my key, then flashed it. Put it into the other 360 and it worked like it was supposed to. Now I just got to put everything back the way it was, LOL :D

So when you get the chance to check, see if it will play originals while flashed with the spoofed firmware.

Tested in an other 360 with TS28, same problem.
Conclusion: fawlty drive -return to seller...
Flashed the TS28 spoofed as Hitachi79 (same weird spoofinfo) SUCCESS! :)

Well, that sucks that it was a bad drive.... But at least you found out what the cause of your problems were and you can send the drive back.

Keep us updated of your progress and if you need anything just let us know!
