FTP Servers

Post by technoe »

I have a website which is obviously using HTTP as it's protocol, how can I link to my FTP server (using FileZilla) so people can access through their browser?

well that's my problem. I'm using Filezilla Server and client apps. I've tried several configurations but still haven't been able to get anything to connect via my external IP. I would love for someone to try to connect to it. I just don't know how the server app should be set up.

Well essentially, I have my site. Which is mainly pictures and a few blogs for my family back home. Well they would like to be able to download some of the movies of my daughter plus some other files that I've got running on my web server. I figure the best way to do that would be FTP. Well my wife found FileZilla which we both really like, it seems easy enough to set up and maintain but I can't seem to access the server using my external ip address. It works great for the other PC's on my network, using the private ip address. Just wondering if anyone knows of a better way to set up a FTP server. I'm running Windows XP Pro 32-bit, looking to go to Vista Ultimate 32. Not really decided yet.

Sounds like you havent setup ftp accounts yet. You need to create FTP accounts first, before you can connect to your site.

Who hosts your site?

The FileZilla server has a user list which I added several users to but the problem is for some reason I can't access the files using the external ip address.

Are you hosting your site off your computer with apache or something or are you paying for hosting?

Hmm, then im not quite sure how you would create an FTP.

Have a look at this: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodte ... x?mfr=true" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

According to that you do not have FTP installed by default.

See that's the thing I was wondering if I could use my FQDN instead of my ip address. I'm registered with no-ip.org and they update the dns servers for me as my ip address changes.
