Broken SATA port

Post by stumpx2 »

Ok so here is the deal, I have 2 motherboards and one I am not going to use because the capacitors are broken off of it. On the other motherboard the SATA port ( I am calling it that, it is the little black piece you connect the SATA cord into) is missing and I cannot find it. Is there anyway to get the SATA port off of the motherboard that I am not going to use and put it on the motherboard that I am going to use? I can see that it is soldered on but is connected in some other fashion. Appreciate any help.

There's usually plastic clips that hold those ports on as well as the leads being solder through the board. The hardest part will be melting all of the solder on all 7 pins in order to remove the SATA connector. It might actually be easier to replace the Caps that are broken on the other board depending on how man there actually are. Most Electronics shops or industrial buildings use what's called a Wave Solder machine that is exactly what it sounds like. A big or small tub of molten solder so the tech can just set the part of the board that needs to be soldered on the surface of the solder and insert or eject the component. They look a lot like this.
