Hi everyone.
For some time now i always get this error message when i try to playback an avi divx or xvid.
"! Unplayable Contetnt
A medi update is required to play this content. To get this update singn in to Xbox Liveand play this conten again.
Status code: 51-coodf236"
1. i did download this update several times and
2. when i get this message and i go online the xbox dosnt download any thing just makes a quick check and the movie runs.
3. it only downs an update if i delete the old one manualy
is there any way around this? am i the only one with this? or is the box doing this to upload movie info to m$ so they know what we are watching??
i checked the size of the new media update and its about 2 mb but i still remember that the first time m$ came out with the media update it was about 5 mb.

it sounds like you have a different HD on that console than the first time you got the avi update
the AVI update is keyed HD/console and will only work off xbox live as long the Hd and console match.
if you have changed the HD the only way it will play avi files is if its signed in live.

Same thing happens to me. As far as I know you have to be signed in to watch movies that require a codec from the 'optional media update'. You can be signed on, as any account. If I want to watch in peace, or someone else is watching a movie, I sign them in on a different GT (Im pretty sure it doesn't need to be a gold account)shlomes wrote: 2. when i get this message and i go online the xbox dosnt download any thing just makes a quick check and the movie runs.

sounds that you are right. i had to change the console several times cause of RRoD. if i remember right this must be nr. 5 (no wonder i got good at dvd flashing). the hd stayed always the same form the first one. do you think there is maybe a way to delete the update some how for good so i can get a good working signed one?

Try making a silver account, and downloading it fresh with that.shlomes wrote:CoFree wrote:it sounds like you have a different HD on that console than the first time you got the avi update

But if you're really feeling frisky, you can hook up your hdd to your pc and delete all of the updates and cache. The only thing about doing that is every time you play any game it will have an update for it.

I was talking about deleting it off your HDD, then downloading it with a new GT onto your HDD. I dont know if it will work, but you can give it a shot.shlomes wrote:i have a gold account for at lest 11 months. how do you mean that.HaGGardSmurf wrote: Try making a silver account, and downloading it fresh with that.

Is there any way to be able to play media files that need this update, on a banned console?
I'm guessing not but it can't hurt to ask i suppose.
