XP Laptop ..

Post by JP0503 »

Just wondering if I could get a little help. I cant install the drivers for my via card on Vista 64. I cant use Jungle Flasher. So I have an IBM laptop running windowsXP that Im going to reformat and use for flashing purposes only. Do the ExpressCard to SATA cards work ? like what are my options on using this laptop ??

Well... You cannot use jungle flasher on a 64 bit system. It was not designed to run on a 64bit OS, and the driver it needs (portio) is unsugned, thus it wont install on 64 bit systems.

Its weird that you cant install your via driver, are you sure its the via driver and not portio your trying to install? The via driver should be signed, but then again it may not be, im not completely sure.

You cannot use a laptop for flashing, as the express cards do not work as far as we know. I dont think there has been a successful flash on a laptop yet.

In your case, its best to use iprep, or install a small xp partition onto your HDD, and use it for flashing.

Ya not sure . the VIA card i have came with a small CD . tried to install it. NO dice . lol . i mean nowhere does it say for vista 64. so ya i know Jungle doesnt work on 64bit. ive tried that . but i saw a expresscard on ebay with the via 6421 chipset and thought it might do the trick . no big deal. what im doing now is just shuttin down my pc. installing the sata card . then starting and bootin into iprep. just didnt wana keep taking out the sata card. no big deal . just thought id ask.

depending on the hard drive connections on your computer and the one in the laptop, you could put the laptop hard drive in the desktop and boot off of it and run XP. then you can install the drivers and get going.

Yes, you will need something like a CK3 regardless as you need the RS232 to TTL converter

this type of cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=3109713" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is needed, not the dual female.
