Flashing a Liteon 74850C with R707 soldered
I used to have a BenQ, which is easy to flash over SATA. I know that if I solder the R707 point on my new Liteon (actually I intend to use conductive ink), then I don't need a spear to get the drive key. Is it still necessary to connect the drive using a CK3 to flash it at that point, or can I do it normally over direct SATA once it is soldered?

Yes, you still need to connect a ck3.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake.

yes u still need to hock it up to a power source (CK3)
And u will need a rs232 cable to pull the key
I reccomend using iprep for this

I was planning on using JungleFlasher - are you sure I need the CK3? From what I understand, with the CK3, the drive still plugs directly into the PC through SATA. The CK3 only seems to be needed to power the drive (which I normally provide from the 360 itself), and to run the probe, which is unnecessary once I've done the soldering.

My advice is dont cheap out.
As far as I remember soldered r707 causes problems while trying to update, I believe you are unable to update a lite-on if the point is soldered, so you will need to desolder the pint to update the drive. (I know this was a problem for either cofree or sadalius while trying to update to 1.6 during an iprep beta test, I cannot say if it will be a problem going from 1.6 - the next FW, but it probably will)
Bridging the point with something would probably be better, as you dont need to desolder later.
Take a look at this:
