via sata card

When I plug in my sata card, my computer idles but does not turn on. When I unplug my sata card, the computer turns on. I cant get the computer to turn on and need some assistance asap, i need to mod this xbox by tonight. Im running on a gateway 9500. Thanks

Sounds like a potential IRQ conflict to me. Is it a PCI SATA card?--which PCI slot are you putting it in?--try moving it around to different available PCI slots. If you have other PCI cards plugged into your motherboard, you can check in Windows which IRQ ports are being used on which PCI slots. If you don't have time to do a lot of tests I'd recommend unplugging all unnecessary PCI cards (sound card, network adapter, etc) and only have the SATA PCI card plugged in. If you get to windows you'll know it's an IRQ conflict.

my 56k modem works on that same pci slot. Its the only pci slot that i have on the computer. I went into bios and hit pci configurations and it says resources controlled by (auto)escd, pci/ vga palette snoop disabled, pci bar above 4gb, disabled , maximum payload size 4096. anything else that i can do? I really need to finish this tonight. Thanks

btw when my sata card is plugged in, my light on my computer is not on. When sata card is unplugged, light is on.

I'd say it's about 90% sure to be a BIOS setting that is restricting the card from letting your computer boot properly. Does it give you another option other than "auto" for the PCI port? What I'd do if I were in your shoes (without knowing what motherboard you are using and with limited time)...I'd try changing all those settings in the PCI configurations of your BIOS one by one and restart after each one till it boots. Depending on what BIOS you are using, there may be other pages with information that will also affect the IRQ addressing.

Sorry I can't give you more specifics, but if you need to do this tonight I'd say try changing the BIOS settings one by one.

i tried changed the irq resources to manual instead of auto and assigned all the irq channels to my one and only pci device . It didnt work. My computer is a gateway 9500 with amd phenom

and/or try the pci card in a different computer.
