Any ideas on what to do with a flashed router?

I use a WRT54GL with Tomato fw on it. However, I have used DD-WRT. I use mine for Ethernet Bridge mode :)

what is the purpose of flashing a router?

Better QoS, integrated FTPD, in depth bandwidth monitoring, etc. Like I said, I use mine for Ethernet Bridge mode.

There are a multitude of reasons to flash your router. No point in doing it if you don't do your research beforehand.
