Question About System Update

Hi all!
I've got my xbox for day and a half and every time I try to register to xbox live I get a message about system update, and as far as I know, if you don't know what you're doing don't update o.o

So the question is that:
My xbox is elite jasper 120GB LT 1.7
Should I update?

I have the same1, with all the updates so far. Nothing wrong yet.
