Manual Firmware update

Question.. If i swap out HDD's on my ps3 (hdd went bad) how would the ps3 update my firmware if i'm not connected to the internet? Would i have to do it manually!?

yes you would
but im not sure if you can replace a HD in a ps3 with out being hooked up to the net
and then it would pull the latest update

i ask because i just bought a used ps3 where the HDD crashed. The kid said it has 3.50... I have 3.41 firmware that i could update it too.. I guess there is only one way to find out.. ill report back after i try it tonight.

can't be done.. i tried it.. the ps3 retains the same firmware update regardless if the HDD is new or formatted
