x-clamp fix issues?

Post by yenracer »

Hey fellas,

Just did the x-clamp fix using this site llamma because it was getting the no video signal.

After that i turn it on it won't boot up as in no video showing up. Any thoughts? i used the right screws and parts and applied artic silver thermal 5. Just wondering if anyone had this issue and found the answers?

Many thanks

i dont , the xclamp fix has never been a solid fix
the chip would need to come off and be reballed to get a good fix

Agreed the x-clamp fix IMO is only good if your machine is only JUST overheating.

reballed would be needed from here.

Problem with re-ball is not too many people doing it. Would be nice if there were someone in my area...

thanks for the reply guys, but the reason why i did the fix was because i had the no video signal but had sound and people are saying that it is an indication the RROD is forthcoming so i decided to do it. Am i out of options here or is reballing the only thing left?

could you guys link me to reballing tutorial?

thanks again guys.

well you could rework your xclamp a little more heat a little tighter on the bolts
stuff like that
you maybe able to get it going for a short time.
there is not a guide on re-balling(well maybe there is )
the thing is it takes equipment (a re-work station) to do a re-ball

here is a link to Dans Mods it is in tampa florida
shootsteel (a mod at this site, is the owner)

Re-flow is not a re-ball. Re-flow is merely melting the current solder again, and letting it reform. Re-flow can be done with a hot air station or hot air gun, and uses the same solder. Re-ball requires removing the gpu/cpu, removing the solder, then replacing with new solder. This should work better because it can use leaded solder when re-balling.

Good luck...

yeah def do a reflow first. but dont use heat guns fins a pro that is offering reflow services. ask them what kind of equipment they are using and such. if you rrod after that try a reflow again if fails a 3 time its time to reball. but i know a few people that reball and one day ill get into it myself

Which solder would you prefer under your gpu?
