after reflow, replace xclamps?

hi after you do the gpu reflow with the heat gun do you just replace the xclamps same way you took them off or another way? many thanks =)

keep in mind this is not a long lasting repair
a month or two maybe six is about the longest ive heard of.

Think i broke that record, mine lasted just over a year!! it was the very first time doing a xclamp replacement and i didnt reflow at all, now when i do the fix WITH a reflow they dont last longer than a month :S weird :lol:

It's much easier to just replace the xclamps, both of them. If you only do one, your board will warp more than normal and you can cause damage. If you dont have the bolts and washers on hand you can just stick the xclamps back on, and you do it just the same as when you got them off. Get 2 legs on, then the third, and the fourth is the hardest, you need to apply a bit of pressure.

All depends on the actual issue. If the solder is badly damaged it may take a professional reflow, or even a reball to fix.

If it's a single joint thats gone a little bit cold, an xclamp can fix it for a while.
