I have a xbox360 here that had a samsung dvd in it, can i put a lite-on in it and just play games off line?

Yes. You would have to use the keys from the DVD drive that is in it and copy them to the new drive.
OK for offline play, but could result in a ban if you go online.

You may run into issues down the road, and also the next big update M$ releases will probably flash the drives again and you'd need your original samsung to put in the console for the update, so dont just throw it out.
At the end of the day, it'll be easier to just buy a new samsung and stick that in the console. If money is an issue and you have a lite-on laying around you can stick that in too but just make sure to hang on to the sammy.
