0800 Disk Question

ok well tommorow is a big day, Why?...well becuase i am gonna flash my 360 for the first time and hopefully backup my first game.

but i just have one question regarding the 0800 disk...
Can this be burnt onto a normal dvd disk or can it only be burnt onto a dual layer disk?

I did some reading up on this and this is what I came up with. If the version of firmware (stock fw or hacked) you are using supports single layer disks then you can use a SL. if it only supports DL then you must use a DL disk. There was a period there where the hacked fw would only read DL disks due to the stealth issues, but as far as I know the current versions support the SL disk. You can check this easily by putting a xbox1 game in your 360 and see if it plays. If it does than your fw supports SL disks. You might want to google it though and make sure you are reading it the same way I did.

By the way, why are you doing it with the 0800 disk anyway? Cofree has tutorials that don't include using the 0800 disk.

If he's using a samsung, with the older xtreme firwmare, he could use it to make backups with. But, if he plays online with those backups, he'll end up banned because for whatever reason, something was wrong with the images that they produced. This was one reason that the code for allowing the drive to dump the games was removed. The 0800 code was left in for the purpose of unlocking the drive for firmware updates, but it's easier to use the 10 second trick. So in all actuallity, in this day and time, 0800 mode is kind of useless.

hmm ok thanks, now how do i use that to backup my games.

do i do the iprep thing etc up to the 10sec trick then just boot into windows?

and can this be done with iXtreme 1.3

You do the whole thing in dos.dump/read your 360 drive and then flash you drive. you stop after the read and check your dump to make sure its good

ok thanks now just to clear things up, once my drive is flashed using the 10sec trick my computer will recognize my 360 drive and i can then use XBC to backup my game. hope this is right

no that is not right

you flash the drive with the 10 sec trick.
then to dump you need a sh-d162c dvd drive (check ebay) or you have to do the hot swap.
i dont like the hot swap way.

there is a out dated way of making a backup with that 0800 disc.

And the outdated method that cofree is talking about doesn't work with the ixtreme firmware. Only with the older xtreme firmwares. The code for ripping games was removed in ixtreme as an extra measure to keep from being banned from live. The sh-d162c or similar drive is the best backup answer.
