I would have thought it was a UK Vs Australia thing... Crap weather in the UK so guys play games on consoles. Good weather in Australia so guys go to the outdoor pubs.
How does America fit in with that? Is there higher console sales the further north you go? ha ha

I've got a PSP and knew loads of people in the UK who had one. I'm the only person that has one that I have met over here!

Just a suggestion, though it may not work with the tool you are using, is to thread a nut on the screw before you cut it. Then when it's cut you back the nut off and it will help to correct threads that have gotten messed up during the cutting process. I usually use a dremel with a reinforced cut off blade.

you don't need the x-clamp even on there...just use 8 5x10mm pan head screws 16 1mm thick metal washers and 1mm thick 8 nylon washersand try to tighten it up more it works and if you don't have the fan tunnel in it will still rrod

Thanks for the reply but that's the problem. Can't get the screws... I can get the right width and they will screw in ok but they are too long to put the chassis back on. And if I cut them with my leatherman, the threading get bent and won't screw in.

I was trying the x clamp fix because it was cheap and I didn't have a heat gun. (And didnt want to melt my motherboard) I was waiting to get the kit delivered but it seems they are a load of bandits. They took my money but no RROD kit! Dodgy f*ckers!
Now trying to find someone with a heat gun...

Update.....

Got the kit yesterday, nearly a full month after ordering. (It had a sticker on it saying it was opened by customs so it could have been responsible for the delay.)
Took my xbox apart while watching the new Harold and Kumar movie (very funny and worth watching) and put in the screws and such. Put it back together and hey-presto, no RROD!
So, I switched it off pretty quick, got a floor fan, pointed at the xbox and wired it up the TV. I played guitar hero 3 for about 20 mins then switched it off.
I am ordering an extra fan to plug in the back now and see how that goes.

Not going to say its working just yet, need to give it a good run first...

Cool. Glad you got it man. RROD can be a tricky thing. Depending on exactly where the problem is and the severity of it, even the x-clamp trick can be temporary though. But it will either last for a really long time or around a week or two. All of the ones that I've done are still alive and kicking though.

I'm going to keep the gaming to short bursts (1h max) and that combined with the 3 extra fans on the back, hopefully it should last a decent length of time.

Finally found someone with a heat gun so I can borrow that if it dies again.

I need to play Burst LImit just to get some use out of Sad's wizardry.

I hate to hear that man..... I've had pretty good luck with the x-clamp replacement, but its not a permanent thing. I would have thought that you would have had a little more life out of it though.

I was hoping to get longer out of too. I kept the gaming to 30 minute sessions and got the 3 fan addon thingy to click to the back.

Its worth a try. Just remember to foil off everything that you don't intend to heat up. Start out on a low temp for a couple of minutes to gradually warm up the board so it won't warp. Then you can switch to high heat while working the gun in circles so as not to stay in one place for too long. You can bring the gun in while its on high to about 4 inches or so working over the GPU primarily for about 2-3 minutes. Then raise the height of the gun to about 6-8 inches for another minute, then switch to low heat for another minute while raising the gun to about 10-12 inches. Then turn the gun off and let everything cool. Watch the solder around things like the little resistors because if the solder starts to melt and your not paying attention, you could literally blow those little components off the board. Its not a big thing, just something to watch for while your running the gun.

Sometimes playing with the amount of torque on the replacement bolts will get it working again as well.
