Anyway, got the multimeter here. I'm just wondering what i do to set it to 20K (ohms).

Yes 20 ohms is correct, as you have already calibrated the drive it shouldnt read any less than 2.8k, if it does then you may have to turn it up until it reaches 2.8k, any less you could fry your laser

Well i cant get this to work unless its under 2.8, it'll work round about 2.74.

So i guess spoofing the drive might be the way to go?

Would that mean, dumping the original firmware from the BenQ. Reflash the Hitachi back to its original FW, then flashing the BenQ firmware to the Hitachi Drive, and then finally flash that with iprep??

your console had a dvd drive in it
you are going to replace it with a different dvd drive.
so
you have to spoof the replacement dvd drive to report as the orig.

you will put your orig key in the firmware of the replacement dvd drive firmware and then spoof that firmware
then you flash it in the replacement drive.

you have to have the dvd drives firmware in it so it will work
if you flash a firmware in a dvd drive that it is not made for you could brick your drive.

2.8k is the recomended setting, I dont know if it would matter by .4k and i dont know if the laser can damage the disk, so ask about can the laser damage the disk, if it cant damage the disk carry on using it and hope for the best, make sure you have a dump of the firmware of that drive though for future problems that could happen e.g. the laser finally gives in.

OR

If you want to swap drive then dump the hitachi drive for saftey reasons and keep that firmware you just dumped in a safe place,

then dump the benq drive in jungle flasher (once again keep that dump in a safe place) and click no to auto open benq ixtreme 1.51,

then you simply click open target firmware which would be the ixtreme 1.51 hitachi 78 (there are 4 types of 0078 firmware so make sure you pick the correct one),

then click spoof source to target,

make sure the key from the benq dump is the same in the ixtreme 1.51 hitachi firmware in the target firmware box is correct, also make sure it says spoofed as VAD6038 that will be in bold so you cant miss it.

Then click save to file and select a place for the custom hitachi firmware will be saved.

Now you should have a ixtreme 1.51 hitachi firmware spoofed as a VAD6038 in the target firmware box,

simply proceed with flashing the hitachi drive in jungle flasher and your done

Put the xbox back together and give it a go.

The motherboard in the xbox will now think the hitachi drive is a benq drive because you spoofed it

I couldnt write it any clearer so if you cant understand it ask the pros , CoFree, sadalius, backslash, dalecheesy and whoever else there is on this forum

I would actually use jungleflasher with the hitachi drive. Just hook up the hitachi, power it on. Don't use Mode b on a connectivity kit or anything. Open jungleflasher, Go to the GDR3120 tab click send mod b. Open the tray, power off the drive, click the button on the dialog box. When the dots start across the bottom of jungleflasher turn the drive on. The tray should close and JF should report mode b done. It should recognize the drive on the left portion of JF. Put a dot in the restore option and click restore button. It should restore the drive back to stock. You have to make sure to put the hitachi ixtreme firmware download into the firmware folder of jungle flasher for this to work.

You do have .net 2.0 or higher? In the latest jungleflasher, it comes with a file called What.Net.exe run that and let it check your .Net install. Also, your not running a 64 bit OS are you?

Should the BenQ drive appear on windows if its connected properly?? The Hitachi drive is showing up whever i connect that, but nothing for the BenQ.

Oh and Sadalius, there's no 'what.net.exe' with the jungle flasher i've got, and i'm fairly sure my .net framework is fully up to date. I'll look for a newer jungleflasher anyway to be sure. Thanks!!

Benq's, Sanungs and Lite-ons will not show up in windows unless they are flashed with the 0800 firmware for each drive and the 0800 hasn't been released for the lite-on yet. So unless you flashed it with 0800, your Benq won't show up in windows. That file comes with jungleflasher 1.51 by the way.

OK giys. Want to get back to this. I'm trying to flash using iprep, but whenever i try to load the firmware I'm getting an error telling me "no valid firmware loaded", I've tried loading both ixtreme 1.5 and 1.6 and no dice. Any advice??
