Yes the drive is going to sound a little different as it looks for info on the disc. It will not always make one steady noise if that is what you are asking.

Use the absolute best media you can afford. The Singapore 2.4x-8x Verbatims are the best you can use for this. Not the India ones if you can avoid it. The India ones are second rate.

Maybe I am describing the sound using the wrong word. Its sounds like its seeking info. Seems like the lens is going back and fourth. Thanx.

yes it will make a high pitch sound when the lasr is moving fast back and forth

Wondering about an update...i had a hitachi v59 and before my xbox died, another heat-issue was the pin that holds the disc in place melted away from the disc drive and made an absolutely horrid sound. I had never heard that type of sound, like a grinding, but the disc itself was unscathed.

If it happens to you, you can fix it easily by opening the disc drive and using epoxy to re-attach the magnet pin.
