ok i have been out of the modding game for a little while..I am going through a divorce so i let my son have the xbox. although i am not burning games at all i have kinda kept up with the posts. I have not modded my xbox since 1.41. I have a ts-h943 (samsung) My son has not asked for any of the new game so i have not tried to play any 3rd or 4th wave games.. I came to his house today to try and mod his xbox and burn call of duty modern warfare 2 . I got on the computer to see this unpleasant surprise about banning..My son Plays on Xbox Live every day.. He dled the fall update and has not gotten banned yet..... i dont know if this is any help put he has not gotten banned running 1.41 firmware.
question if i purchase call of duty will it even play on my xbox running 1.41 firmware

a fellow modder says its playing new releases of the games before they are released and that the HD keeps track of the dates played and if the game was played before the release date then youll get banned regardless if you were playing on live but until you log onto xbox live thats when people have been getting banned

let me tell you a story about a 8 year old girl.
She just had to have a new game.so i picked it up for her
took it home, and as life has tough me safety first
i made a backup of the new game.
The game had never even been in a 360.
Well in a hour or so the backup was done and the 8 year old (who had been bouncing off the walls) came running over to get the game.
She has her own 360 in her room.
At this point i tell her dont run be careful.I could tell it went in one ear and out the other.
She turned around took 1 step drop the game disc (backup) and stepped on it just that fast.Well the disc broke.
It all happened in the blink of a eye.
She turned around with the horrific look on her face.
I being the loving father i am.
did not make a sound turned around and put a blank DL disc in and started the burn all over again.
then turning around I said lovingly to her.
dont worry, it will be ready in about 30 min.
the last thing i saw was her huge small and she was gone to bounce of the wall for the next 30 min

Lucky for me I had a brand new elite unmodded that I am able to use now. I was also feeling the Modern Warfare 2 frenzy and purchased a copy and thank god that I was able to recover my 47,000 gamerscore but my saves files are gone. I just beat Borderlands and was at level 35 now I'm forced to buy the game and start all over

Ok, this has got to stop.
It is ALL 100% speculation on your part.
Do you have diagnostic hardware hooked up to monitor all the 360's Bus information? No? Didn't think so.
Unless you can back-up your claims with 100% hard solid proof, stop all the guessing.
99.9% of you will be wrong anyhow.
Here are the current fact's in the chase for the cause:
- There is no point keeping your currently unbanned console off live to avoid being banned, the ban happens if your connected or not.
- The ONLY commonality between all banned consoles is that they have a modified firmware flashed to the consoles DVD-Drive.
The point I'm making is you got banned because
YOU chose to run a modified console!
If you are banned from live and claim you are not running modified firmware, check to make sure it is a console ban and not a Gamer Tag ban.

Any truth that Xbox might even be able to cripple your HDD, even if you stay offline, by applying a ban through the actual game disc?

Bans will NOT be applied VIA games discs, your looking at gigabytes of console serials it would have to store on the disc.
So no, this is just another unfounded rumour.

I assume that if you keep you console off of LIVE and never get the ban message then your HDD will not get corrupted and the console will still function properly(although without internet). That would be a good point I believe...

If you have been flagged, but have yet to receive the ban message, it is much better to keep your console off live.
If you stay offline, m$ cannot apply the changes to your console (meaning you can continue to install games to your HDD etc). The ban will be waiting for you when you connect to live, but until you do that you will still have a fully functional, non-crippled system for use offline.
(or am I missing something?)

I'm going to disagree with that and agree with what mkalbarc posted. If the console is banned, but you check for the ban ahead of time using the technique posted earlier in this thread (page 2 or 3 I think) the console will never know its banned and won't break the HDD, and will still be useable for system link and streaming music.

As I said earlier, my Benq made a very conspicuous sound 5 minutes before I got banned. It sounded like the RPM had been boosted to absolute maximum, but there must have been more to it cos I can honestly say the drive has never, ever made that noise before. It really caught my attention. Looking back, I am sure it was m$ performing this response check.
my drive did something similar , BUT this was about 2-3 months ago

dont know what to think of that really
