The only thing is that I get bad read errors once I try to start the backup. Is there a best of the best drive to use?

you mean
you have a backup burned and it will not play in your console.

if so
make sure you dump the game slow at 4x speed
burn slow (yea i saw the post)
and
make sure you are using good disc (verbatim)

I would love to buy that verbatim disc but I'm kind of waiting to drop money on a stack of verbatim disc until I know I can burn a good disc. I already have a decent stack of coasters.

If you still get errors with verbs it might also be time to invest in a new burner. I've always used Pioneer's but it's down to personal preference.

Well I know it's not right to download iso's but until today I had no way of making a backup so after I get my backup here in a few min I'll try burning it. If I'm still having issues after that I guess I'll have to break down and try the verbs. I bought a brand new lite-on burner specifically for it's reviews in making games copies. SO??? Anyways I'll let you know how it goes in a bit.

Is it only backups or is it legit xbox games too? I know with one of my drives I get disk read errors from time to time, and I know a friend of mine gets them probably 4 or 5 times a day and he doesnt have a modded xbox.

Just see if you can go to your local electronics shop, and buy a small pack of dvd's (5, 10, 20 etc etc...)

Best thing to do would be to try one of your backups your having problems with on another xbox. No errors, you will know its your drive, try cleaning the laser.

My regular games work great. I even made my own first back up tonight and after burning it (Twice once with XBC and with ImgBurn) neither would play. The one coming out of imgburn wouldn't even show play game on the dashboard screen. the copy with xbc at least registered on the dashboard. And unfortunately there is no one else around my area modding xbox's. Everyone I know is too afraid to void their warranty. In retrospect I think it might actually be the dvd burner I'm using. It doesn't support anything less than a 4x speed.

P.S.
I even tried Nero (I know, don't laugh) to no avail so I went ahead and ordered the Verbs with a new Plextor 850SA.

i have that set up in one of my computers

just stick with img burn v2.4.2.0
it works great for burning.
make sure that xbc v2.8 is set to dump the game at 4x speed
then set img burn to burn at 2.4x.

Yeah I flashed my BenQ drive with the iXtreme 1.5, I even verified twice. I have a spare benq I was thinking about dedicating to backing up games. I think it's just my burner, like i've said in other posts, I've order a new drive. The same one that Cofree and a few others on here have and that's the Plextor 850SA. I found some Sony disc locally that I'd like to try as I've never had any issues burning anything else to a sony disc. Although I did see that newegg sells the verbs as well now.

Yeah I know it's just having to wait on them, when I can just run down to Target and pick up the Sony spindles. I guess I'm just lazy.
