Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
Using it is pretty simple. Just connect a molex connector to the connetivity kit, then connect the power cable to the connectivity kit and then the DVD drive. Make sure to pay attention to the power cable ends. They are keyed and only are supposed to fit one way, but they can be connected incorrectly if forced. Then plug the sata cable into the x360usb and then plug the USB cable from the x360usb to a USB port on your computer. If you got a V1 connectivity kit, it will have two switches on it. One is for eject, the other is for mode b. Pressing the mode b button will change the LED color to red. The eject button will of course eject the drive tray. I can't remember if they are labeled or not on the V1. You want to press the mode b button and make sure that the LED is red, then just dump and flash with either firmware toolbox or using the files from the firmware download.

Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
Thanks. My psu has a few power cables(they're the molex cables right?) that aren't being used, is it okay to use anyone of them?
And i take it, if i'm using the x360usb i only need to use one part of the X2 connectivity kit?

Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
If you use only the x360 usb or both the x360usb and the connectivity kit depends on if your going to use the 360 to power the drive.
I think the best way is to use both. Use the connectivity kit to provide power and for mode b. Use the x360usb to convert the sata to usb. And yes, you can use any spare molex connector that your PC may have. All it does is provide power to the connectivity kit and then to the drive.

This pic here, its only usin one part of the connectivity kit right?
See the thing is, if i'm to use both parts of the X2 kit won't i need a molex cable that goes from one part of the X2 kit to the other? Which i don't have.
Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*

Here is a picture that shows which button does what on the v1, Make sure that when you turn the drive on, the status LED is red. If its green, press the mode b button and that should get it in mode b. The large white connector at the bottom is for the molex connector and the small white connector at the top is for the power cable that comes to the dvd drive.
EDIT: The connectivity kit usually comes with a connector to connect your 360 hard drive to your computer, that part is not used for flashing the dvd drive. I think this is what you were talking in your last post.

This might help better:

Ok, i'm confused now. The four pin molex slot on the "used for flashing" part, nothing goes in there then?
Edit, "bad word" duh! You're written UNUSED, i read it as used.

Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
yeah, the board cut the picture off a little bit. Sorry bout that. But the part in the picture on the bottom next to the USB cable, that entire circuit board is unused for flashing. You just want the one on the far right for flashing the dvd drive. That and the blue part at the top to convert the sata into usb.

Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
Sheeesh, have everything set up perfect now(i think), have the poower cable from the PSU connected, the SATA usb coneccted to the drive. And before i go to power on the PC, i have the power switch on the connectivity kit switched to on, the eject button off(pushed up) and the mode b button on(down). I'm not getting any power going to my drive though after i've powered on my PC? And on the 360usb adapter there's a blue light where it say USB and a red light where it says power.
Nothings going right for me eh!!

Try flipping the power switch on the connectivity kit back and forth. Seems mine was kinda stuck between on and off when I first tried to use it. If you still don't get any power, try it on a different molex connector, and make sure that the connection is tight. I did a quick photoshop of how its supposed to be setup, it's not like seeing the real thing, but you should get the idea if you have it setup right or not this way.

Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
Yeah, i'm setup perfect. I tried flicking the power switch off and on. And when i go from off to on, i can hear the hitachi drive start to spin or something, i makes a little noise anyway, but then nothing. It'll make that noise everytime i switch from off to on.
Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
Then you should be getting power to the drive then. There is a little small switch on the end of the connectivity kit next to where the dvd drive power cable goes, flip that switch and see if it doesn't lite up. Also, after switch the power on, try ejecting the drive and see what happens, it may take two presses of the eject button to get it to eject. Either way, the power indicator LED and status LED should be lite up whether or not that switch is on or not.

Had just done that, and the red light has now come on. I'm still not seeing the drive on Windows though, no does anything happen when i press down the eject button.sadalius wrote:Then you should be getting power to the drive then. If the drive is in mode b, it will take two presses of the eject button, maybe three. Try leaving the USB cable disconnected from the PC, then turn the PC on and let it start to boot. When windows starts loading, there is a point where you get the windows logo with a scrolling type progress bar, when you get that, try plugging in the USB cable at that point and see if windows detects it.

Its strange, because i've just looked inside device manager and the hitachi drive shows up there, no sign of it when i look in "Computer" though.sadalius wrote:If the drive is in mode b, it will take two presses of the eject button, maybe three. Re: Hit a wall so to speak. *flashing problem*
I've seen this before. I'm trying to remember what I did for it to show up in my computer. I'll post back in a few minutes.
OK, I think this is what I did. Go into the device manager and find the hitachi drive. Go into the propeties of the drive and click the Volumes tab. Then click the Populate button. When it finishes, click ok and then check my computer for the drive.
Also, if your using Windows Vista, make sure to run any application as administrator too.
