Flash LiteOn 83850c Help / Spoof my old benQ?

Hey to all,
First off, my apologies for a really weird subject line. I've got such a ridiculous situation going on with this flash that I'm now forced to pour my heart out on the forum here hoping someone can come up with a solution for me.
Basically, I had a 7xxxx liteon drive which I was told you absolutely cannot mod without using a Connectivity Kit. Unfortunately, I want to mod my 360 cuz I don't have money to waste at the current time in my life on $50 parts or games. Because I haven't had the money needed to just purchase a CK, I swapped my 7xxxx series LiteON 360 with someone's newer 83850c 360. The MF Date is July 2009. From what I heard from JF irc when I got the 360 a month or so ago, it IS possible to flash these...
After hearing from people in JF irc that you can do it, I spent the next 8 hours trying to figure it out. Keep in mind I've flashed with iPrep before on BenQ drives (which is the easiest thing with computers I've ever done) but never encountered a solid process for doing this on the newer LiteOn drives (presumably the most difficult as of yet). I'm no newb to the process.
I am not entirely sure how to check if my drive in particular is version1 or version2, but I am positive my inability to flash the drive (without a CK, mind you) comes from my inability to keep the drive bay ejected. I've tried every 'half-open' method out there. Like I said, I tried on this one drive for 8 hours. No matter how many times I try to open the tray and disconnect power from the MB, if the tray is ejected at all, it immediately retracts the tray when I plug back power back in to the MB. The process is quite different with a CK, therefore tut. vids have not helped. If I stick with this drive, does anyone have any ideas / tutorials / videos / advice for me on how I can get this drive done without using a CK?
My secondary question is, should I be unable to move forward with the drive I currently have... how easy, now knowing my situation and lack of a CK, would it be for me to spoof my old BenQ drive that was part of a RROD 360 from last year? This BenQ drive I have of course needs to be updated with wave4 firmwares and what not, but it never gave me a shred of grief. The only issue I had with the box was the RROD. I'm pretty sure the old MB in that one got burned up real bad (lots of visible heat damage on the board itself, and I got it 2nd hand). It was only a matter of time. However, the drive itself still works fine. Do you think I can transfer it over to my new rig and take out the troublesome LiteOn83850?
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST. Thanks to all who read the whole thing. I lay my heart and soul before you guys here. I've been unable to play a new game for 5 months since my old box RROD'd... and I simply cannot wait any longer without asking you guys here.
Thanks,
durrigible
