PS3 powering off

My buddy has a PS3 that when he turns it on it turn back off. I have taken apart and removed the hard drive and still doing the same thing. Does anyone have an idea on what this could be?

Hello, had a problem like yours but need more info on how the LED flashes before turn off i.e flashing yellow,red,green you might want to read this.

does ps3 power up normal(green light) then after 30-40 seconds just go straight to red light(not flashing)?
there are numerous listings on the net about this fault and the consensus is that an firmware update has failed in some way

hey man we need more info, how does this behave, does it turn red then yellow and then flashes red and turns off in matter of seconds, if so, its a hardware problem. this is also known as ylod, which can be fixed by heat gun. useful guides on youtube.

I am sorry guys I completely forgot I put up a post on this. I ended up selling it for 175.
