Hey everyone,
I am at a cross roads here with 3 coasters and imgburn giving me errors :
i/o error imgburn
imgburn Reason: Logical Unit Communication CRC Error (ULTRA-DMA/32)
sense area: F0 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00 00 interpretation: write error
after searching them came to say that the laser may be dirty or that it is fried.
I ran a test to test the burner and it performed normal when burning a test CD but I believe the problem may be from burning dvd's. The burner is a sony DRU V200S SCSi.
I have had this burner for 2 years now and I am at a cross roads as to just buy another burner and test it and if all is good then keep it but if the problem persist than it may just be the via card.
If anyone can help out it would be much appreciated.

2 years, yea man I'd say that burner's seen its day. Burner's have short life times especially if you burn alot. Personally I'd buy a new burner, hell when mine died, I bought 3 new burners for my computer.
A brand new dvd burner is awesome when burning backups, I can burn at 6x when im in a rush, and the game will burn perfectly.

Re: how to clean a dvd burner laser
IDE/SATA doesnt matter, sata is just a newer faster interface.
What kind of disks are you using?

I know I've seen a DVD drive cleaning disc somewhere... You can try to disassemble it and wipe the lens with a soft cloth that doesn't conduct static. A Qtip, maybe?
But there's no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake.

Re: how to clean a dvd burner laser
I am using verbatim made out of Singapore.
The odd thing is that earlier i tried to burn a standard cd with audio data on it and all i got was a one track disc with nothing written on it.
I am going to try and change the configuration on the drive to be a slave versus a master and see if that can help.

Re: how to clean a dvd burner laser
Well i swaped out the ide port from the LG to the primary being as both my HDD are sata and set it to slave and while using IMGBURN with the correct Layer break the "writing leadin" just hung for awhile but it seems to be going. Lets see what the outcome is...

Re: how to clean a dvd burner laser
Well just got another I/O error!
Device: [0:1:0] HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NO20 2.00 (D:) (ATA)
ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB: 2A 00 00 1D 33 80 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Write (10)-Sectors: 1913728 - 1913759
Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 21 02 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Invalid Address For Write
Well this now shows me that there is something with the Drive and it not liking the layer break.
Does anyone have any opinions on drives to get because I still can go return this puppy.
Anyone for another coaster?>
