jtag linux questions

i never owned a ps3 so i never cared to look at how good it runs linux. after doing some reading around today i realized that its hardware is limited, only 256mb memory, no 3d acceleration etc. i have a spare 360 and before going through all of the trouble:
1. can you install linux to the 360 hd or do you have to live cd every time (seen different ways on youtube)?
2. whats the hardware limits (memory amount, 3d acceleration, etc.)
3. do i have to go through some special process every time i want to boot up to linux?
4. and lastly, i want to do this in means of creating a super fast, powerful computer out of my spare 360, is this recommended for me or should i wait until the jtag is more perfected?
