Burning Backups Trouble!!

Hey, I'm having trouble with burning my backups. First I use singapore Verb DL+R, 110d Pioneer burner with latest firmware, and Imgburn. I have a few issues, when i begin to burn it will not write at the speed i set it too. It will burn at 0.5x for 50% of the burn, then it jumps to the speed i set after layer break. Most of the time I get successful burn but sometimes at the layerbreak the device buffer and speed will decrease leaving me with a coaster. Imgburn doesnt give any errors when this happens. I was thinking i need to upgrade my ram IDK. Also i had some old school verbs DL (3 pack $25) that never gave me trouble. ANY IDEAS??
