A bug afflicting original 60GB PS3 models has reportedly rendered a number of titles unplayable on the system.

Many owners of the original PS3 model are also suffering a complete PlayStation Network blackout, Sony has acknowledged.

Numerous PS3 owners have visited internet forums to complain of a wave of '8001050F' error codes over the past day. They claim that they are unable to connect to the PSN and that offline games that synchronise trophies are failing to load.

Users have also reported that PS3 clocks have been resetting to 12/31/1999. Internet speculation suggests that a calendar bug may be to blame for the problems.

Sony said via its PlayStation Twitter that 120/250GB PS3 models are connecting to the PSN “normally”, while SCEA said on the US PS Blog:

“We’re aware that many of you are having difficulty connecting to the PlayStation Network this evening. Those of you with “slim” PS3s (the 120/250 GB models) appear to be unaffected.

“Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.”

Yep I have had the dreaded freezeout! Can't play anything with trophies links!!!

Hopefully the techs will push a fix out soon!!! Bit strange, though reminds me of how much panic set in just before 2000 (was quite funny in hindsight!!)

I don't remember a Y2K friendly sticker being on this lol! Looks like my PS3 is partying like its 1999!!!!

Well not so much partying as being soft!!!

you can get it to work now if you wish....open the box up....take out the little MOBO battery....reinstall it....then go online and set your time/date....your good to go

the problem is the date, feb 28 2010....for some reason PS3 could not handle it. recognize it

It's weird, I had a similar problem with my windows mobile phone... it had a problem dealing with jan 1 2010 because in of a hex/dec bug, apparently the date in hex is = 16 when converted to dec.

I wonder if its a similar thing that happened here?
