is there a way you can tell if the drive is not the original? are there numbers that match the back of the 360?

The only way is to dump the FW, and if you open it in JF it will show up as a different drive. (unless its the same brand)

The only other way would be to look at the mfr, if its 07 and it has a lite-on in it, thats obviously not the stock drive.

what drives came with what years?

Select your country mfr, generation, and you should be able to find what drive your xbox likely had in it.
