hitachi drives are tricky try to connect drive before botting pc. try different sata ports, also you might wanna try jf 1.70.

For the lack of a better way to describe it, hitachi's can be a royal pain in the back side. Picky as all get out and very uncooperative. In my experience, a new hitachi (I know, no such thing anymore) would be easy as pie to take care of, but as it aged some, they would become very flaky. I think mainly because of hardware issues, but who knows for sure. I just know they can be a pain.

Why are you replacing your original hitachi drive? If your replacing it because its worn out or something, you can just swap the pcb's in the drives, and your good to go.
