Jungleflasher - bad lag and general pc slugginess

I did ask about this in the sticky thread at the top, but I fear it has gone un-noticed as people probably don't check stickies very often!

Anyway, using windows XP and a VIA V6421 card which was suggested as one of the ones to buy when this whole thing took off. I've followed all the procedures for removing the VIA drivers and installing the portI/O ones. I have also installed the usb drivers for the ck3 pro kit.

My drives are recognised (both an Hitachi and Samsung, but once they are either in mode b or vendor mode, my pc starts to lag like crazy. I can actually do a flash ok - despite how scary it was with my pc lagging and mouse movement very difficult.

Once the flash is done, it takes forever for jungleflasher to close down even though the drive is off and disconnected. It then takes maybe 15 minutes for my pc to close down.

I have no idea how to cure it. I did ask over at the jungleflasher forums, as I was having an issue with something else as well. they answered my technical question, but completely ignored my question about lag. I've googled and found a few with the same problem, but it is usually because they didn't uninstall the VIA drivers. I know I've done that bit correctly, and as I say, it kind of all works, but with that awful lag which is really putting me off trying to do a Liteon next.

I would have tried it in dos with iprep, but I don't have a serial connector on my PC. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

when you unistalled/disabled the drivers, did you also rename them in the system 32 folder??

Yeah I renamed them to .old as I do with drivers I want to keep but not delete. I have the yellow icon next to the Via card in device manager so I know it hasn't reinstalled itself.

Although my machine is an older pc, I have read of people with similar setups (the Asus A7N8X-E deluxe board flash Hitachis as the sata onboard can do Hitachis just fine apparently, but won't read Samsungs or Liteons. They don't get lag so the system specs should be more than enough for flashing. As I say, until a machine enters mode b or vendor mode jungleflasher works ok. As soon as vendor mode is enabed, things go really wonky.

I'm going to remove the via card and reinstall it, and then remove the drivers again just in case something went wrong. I also have found I have a serial connector onboard - tucked away and hadn't noticed it! So I'm going to give iprep a bash and see how I go.

I'd love to get to the bottom of this though, as obviously jungleflasher is pretty handy to use within windows.

Well, reinstalling and then uninstalling didn't help at all. But I noticed something on my pc. If I do a search for viam, I get loads of results. There are files scattered everywhere, which I'm guessing might be from when I installed the VIA card in the first place but I'm not sure. I think maybe they are when installs unpack files ready for the installation itself? But I'm guessing.

If I have onboard sata does that have via stuff associated with it or not? If I can grab a screenshot of all the files listed could someone tell me if they are all needed? Cheers
