Looks like the xclamp worked! I have resurrected a dead 360. Looks like the kernel is 6683..

i wouldn't have been able to do it if it weren't for you guys. i definitely appreciate it! i do have another quick question about this console though...i'm trying to play fable 2 and its asking for an update..if i was wanting to chip/jtag this box, should i not update from the disc? i'm trying to look up what kernel update fable has but can't find it anywhere.

Try removing the update, youll need to rip the game to your computer, then either download a systemupdate remover, or go into the iso, and delete the systemupdate folder.

Hell, you can look into what kernel you need to jtag, and download that update and put it on the disk instead. Then any game that asks you to update, you'll know not to.

Thanks man, I'll look it up. I just ordered my cygnos360 today, so I may just wait to update. I now have 3 boxes (I just got another rrod and fixed it haha). This newest one was already at 9xxx, so it plays it no problem. I was just asking because my girlfriend was wanting to be able to play fable while I geek on these shooter games haha.

Well you can simply just pull the update off the disk, put you'll need to rip the game, then edit the iso (open with winrar) and remove the update folder.

Nice. So really you don't need updates to play games? Does that work for any game?

Nope, you dont need updates, M$ only put the updates on game disks so offline consoles would be updated.

Yea, it'll work for any game.

Inside the iso is the folder named "$systemupdate" the "$" tells your xbox to 'look here' system update is, well a system update, so when the game loads the first thing your xbox will do is see the systemupdate, and will prompt you while the game is loading.

So any game that prompts you to update, has a "$systemupdate" folder on the game disk, if you rip the game, and remove that, when you start the game, your 360 will not see a system update, so you can play without updating.

Hey man I checked the fable 2 iso and there was no $systemupdate folder..I have a few other games I checked that do have the folder, but this one dosent...so it baffles me as to why it's asking me to update to play it.
